Observations of air concentration, mean air-water velocities, and bubble chord length for a plunging planar jet of water impinging on a pool of water at rest.

The experimental apparatus consists of a fresh water planar jet with a slot nozzle plunging into a receiving channel filled with water. Clear water velocities and turbulent velocity fluctuations were measured using a Pitot tube connected to a pressure transducer. Conductivity probes were used to record air concentration, air-water velocity and bubble chord length at various positions within the developing shear layer. The experiment measured average jet velocities from 0.3 to 9 m/s.
