This sub-collection comprises images and descriptions of 94 tapa cloths held in the UQ Anthropology Museum. Tapa cloths are bark cloths made in the islands of the Pacific Ocean. They are painted or decorated with cultural motifs and patterns using traditional dyes and are used as clothing on formal occasions, as wall hangings or to wrap sacred objects. The tapa cloths in this collection are primarily from Papua New Guinea, the Pacific islands and Melanesia.
