In celebration of International Women's Day 2017 this subcollection presents a selection of work purchased by the Museum from women artists. Since 2011 the Museum has had an acquisitions policy of prioritising buying work by women. A total of 66 works by 57 artists have been purchased since 2011. This includes 23 works purchased from $53,195 in cash donations from the museum’s supporters, enabling the acquisition of work from a diverse cultural heritage for study and display. Through these purchases the museum can promote and support the work of Pacific and Indigenous women makers. This also provides possibilities for present and future collaborations.
